The valley resides on steep slopes of elevations up to 2 kilometres above sea level and experiences optimal solar exposure. All tea is hand-picked, processed, and packed in the valley. The whole process from leaf to pack is under complete control of the producer. The estate is fully ISO, BRC, RFA, USDA, EU and Fair Trade certified. Bogawantalawa has achieved neutral level of Carbon Footprint.
Bogawantalwa operates according to sustainability principals and takes care for proper labour conditions. It supports parents providing dispensaries, maternity leaves, welfare facilities and medical programs. Bogawantalawa organizes child day care centres which care for children while parents are working, improves housing and sanitary conditions and access to health service to workers.
The company does not employ children but supports education, schools and awareness programs. Bogawantalawa also provides decent leaving conditions for retired employees.
Bogawantalawa Tea Estates established foundation under Lanka Mother and Child Support Foundation (www.lankamotherandchild.org), which support mothers and children in need.
Bogawantalawa Tea Estates produces, manufactures and markets carbon neutral teas certified for both product and facility. As part of their mission to be environmentally sustainable the company undertakes initiatives that include continuous R&D projects that help utilise natural fertilisers, water management and utilization of non-conventional renewable energy such as solar and hydro power.
Bogawantalawa, aims to achieve an objective of planting 1 million trees by 2020. They plan to plant 160,000 trees per annum while having achieved a milestone of 500,000 trees so far. Manages nurseries that consists of commercial species, natural species, herbs and fruit plants.
